Heading to the Esri Develop Summit

This week I am heading to the Esri Developer summit. No, I am not a developer the event name is a little misleading. I had the pleasure of attending this event with my team of developers several years ago and that is when I realized this event is a deep dive into technology for more than a developer. Sure there are sessions focused just for developers but for the most part the conversation is at the configuration level and the intentions of the development & product teams. Which is another benefit to attend, access to the Esri teams that build and support the products we use.

As a consultant my role is to guide and advise utilities in a certain direction based on their business needs. I feel this can be achieved with greater success when I understand the underlying technology as much as an implementer does. The knowledge allows me to help utility organizations develop informed solutions based on their needs as well as the current and future state of the technology.

This week my focus will be the utility network and analytics. It might sound like an odd paring but I believe combined it will better define the future. Everyone is looking for the business justification to migrate to the utility network, I am here to say it’s not about mapping performance. There is more to it, there has to be with all the flexibility and capability this new network management software platform provides.

I am on a mission to define the value, a new value we haven’t seen in this space.
