Hey Mappers – what you do matters!!

I mean it. What you do matters, it always has but more now than ever. If you’re following, and I’m sure you are, the heat is turning up in the electric industry and the demand for the data you manage is crucial to the overall success.

The data you manage is used in most of the critical systems and workflows and is depended on by the people across the organization. Have you ever wondered how smart the grid would be without the work you do? I have, and the answer is not as smart as it is, and your organization knows it to.

There is another side to being important and that is when the data is not good it shows and the impact is felt. It means the decisions being made are not as good unless someone else fills in the gaps. This cuts into the value you provide, and if this continues the trust in your product is compromised.

The word on the street is for electric utilities to meet the upcoming demand in the areas of energy transition, electrification, and resilience they need to fill the data gap. This means robust and quality data that can be used to create actionable intelligence. Actionable intelligence are results that are used to solve problems and/or create solutions.

The data you manage in GIS is a major part of the equation and this means what you do is important. So rally around this and take action to be part of the solution.
